Strong Arms {Proverbs 31:17}

I'm pretty protective of spiritual things and tend to be very skeptical when I see such things tied into fitness. People sometimes use God and scripture to make their actions appear of spiritual value, when in fact it's just about them physically and nothing to do with their spiritual wellness.

In a nutshell, I don't like it when things of God are used as a gimmick.
I don't want what I have to say to come across like that at all.

I'm sure that you can already guess that when I saw the shirt pictured below, I paused and grimaced, but you maybe surprised to learn that it also sparked a new thought and awakened a new motivation that is both physical and spiritual. It was something that I had never really thought of before and it brought tears to my eyes. First-- the shirt.

"She Works Hard & Makes Her Arms Strong Proverbs 31:17"
My thought:

The King James Version of this verse says:

Proverbs 31:17 She dresses herself with strength and makes her arms strong.

She makes her arms strong.

It never occurred to me until I saw this shirt- God knows what it takes for mamas to run their households. I'm sure this is a no-brainier for all of you, but this was an epiphany for me!

Sister, God has called you to a greater purpose. Whether you are called to be a mom, wife, servant, care giver, WHATEVER, He knows our needs and what it takes for us to fulfill our callings. He knows that our energy, health and fitness need to be in optimal condition whatever our task may be.

As you read about the Proverbs 31 Woman, you see that she is a workhorse. She is not lazy. She makes sure that all of her loved ones are taken care of. Her candle doesn't go out at night and she gets up while it's still dark.

Y'all-- I don't have that kind of energy! My body is not yet in that kind of condition that I can serve my family in that kind of astounding capacity.

My point is that God left this in His word for us. Taking care of ourselves to be about His business in the mission field that he has called us to (wives, motherhood, hospitality, benevolence, etc) requires so much of ourselves that without being in good health and fitness, we cannot be the best stewards of the blessings He has given us.

This confirms for me that this eye opening experience that I've been having over the last several weeks about my health and fitness is God helping me see that health/weight is more about serving HIM than it is about vanity-- it's all about using what He has given us to serve Him!

Proverbs 14:1 Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands.

Now, I just need to order that shirt. ;)
